Croydon Tech Award winner at forefront of new industrial revolution

Croydon Business Excellence Awards 2017 Tech Innovation winner Crystalusion is set to launch two new products at the leading edge of UK and global technologies.

The first, Voxos, is wearable tech that combines headphones and smart glasses to keep commuters safe while on the move. The second, a revolutionary next-generation battery technology being championed by the Government, is in fast track development for production in the UK over the next few years.

Crystalusion Director Ravi Daswani – pictured (right) with the Crystalusion management team at the 2017 Croydon Awards – commented: “We have had a great year since winning our Tech Innovation Award. As an organisation we are making some considerable investments in pushing the envelope on innovation – and with these two new, high-impact global projects we expect growth in our business over the next few years to be substantial. We are already talking to potential government and academic partners about funding and how we can establish manufacturing facilities in the UK.”

The new products are the result of major investment in research and development by the company, which is based at Sussex Innovation Centre in Croydon. Each builds on the firm’s award-winning Crytalusion Liquid Glass Protection, which uses nanotechnology to protect digital devices.

“The UK Government is making a very big push in the development of battery technology, which is seen as the next wave of the industrial revolution. Our R & D team is currently developing a new generation of safe, non-volatile batteries using nanotechnology and renewable materials that are a 5th to a 10th the size of what is currently available.”

The new products are expected to trigger high-level growth and further multi-million pound investment in the business’s Croydon, UK and international operation. They anticipate doubling the team at their financial and fiscal base in the borough to 10 within a year, followed by a double digit increase in staff every quarter beyond that.

Crystalusion’s founders, Sanjay Daswani, Ben Coull and Ravi, believe being based in Croydon and winning both two Tech Innovation Awards in 2017 – the Croydon Business Excellence Award and the UK Mobile News Award – have helped elevate the company’s profile and trigger growth.
“The awards gave us fantastic exposure and helped us make some important new connections over the past year,” said Ravi Daswani.
“At the same time we also started to make some pretty big investments in research and development, which enabled us to demonstrate our product prototypes, and have really led to our current high growth.”

The pioneering Voxos sunglasses (pictured below) use bone conduction technology to radically improve the safety of pedestrians, runners and cyclists as they use their mobile devices. These smart glasses conduct sound through the bones of the skull, allowing commuters to be more aware of their surroundings and traffic danger, while listening to music, talking or answering their phones. They will launch this month on Indiegogo in support of the WHO and UN’s Decade of Action for Road Safety initiative.

The firm’s other major project involves the exciting field of battery technology. The subject of a major UK Government investment programme, the new generation of smaller, more powerful, and more eco-friendly batteries are expected to transform everything from mobile devices to electric powered cars.

Crystalusion is committed to developing their Croydon base. The firm looked at other London tech hubs, but Croydon’s fast links to the City and Gatwick Airport, along with the huge regeneration and investment, were major factors in the final decision. “Establishing ourselves in Croydon has also been great for Crystalusion – most importantly it has allowed us to tap into networks and to have discussions with the right contacts within the government and industry,” said Ravi Daswani.
