Looking for local business heroes in Croydon’s district centres

A new award championing Croydon’s hard working local traders is inviting entries from shop front businesses across the borough’s nine district centres.

Love Your Local Trader is a new category of the 2018 Croydon Business Excellence Awards in association with Willmott Dixon.
Sponsored by the London Borough of Croydon, the new category aims to highlight the vital role small traders play, not only in the local economy but also in the local community.

Businesses can either enter directly online at www.croydonawards.co.uk or they can be nominated by a customer, client or supplier who thinks they are doing a great job.

Charlotte Parkin, Manager of Woods Jewellers in Coulsdon, last year’s Independent Retailer of the Year, thinks the new award is an amazing opportunity for local traders.

“It’s a very exciting new category that shows support for small and local business throughout the borough and I am sure a lot of retailers will apply,” said Charlotte. “Woods Jewellers feel proud to be part of Coulsdon and are happy that so many people still shop locally and use local services. Being established for such a long time you become a large part of the community and we have built up fantastic relationships and friendships here and with all our customers. We are proud that we can offer quality customer service from our knowledgeable staff and quality products that keep our customers wanting to return and recommending our shop to others.”

Sponsored by London Borough of Croydon, the Love Your Local Trader award is open to businesses with a shop front in Croydon’s district centres, which include Purley, New Addington, Thornton Heath, South Norwood, Coulsdon, Addiscombe, Crystal Palace and Central Croydon.

Sanderstead trader Jacqui Marola of Jam Hair, the 2016 Croydon Independent Retailer of the Year Award winner, thinks the new Love Your Local Trader category is a great way of recognising independent retailers.

“It’s a really great idea for a new award – I will definitely be entering,” said Jacqui. “Sanderstead is a lovely local community and a great place to have a business – it would be good to give the area some publicity too.”

Jacqui says winning the 2016 award gave her business, her clients and her staff a boost. One of the best things was that our customers loved the fact we won an award, which in turn made the team feel very special – so it was a real win-win for us.”
