Croydon’s premier business awards have won the backing of one of the UK’s biggest companies for a new category celebrating the borough’s best businesswomen.

The Croydon Business Excellence Awards 2017 in association with London Gatwick Airport is now inviting entries for 14 categories, including the new Women in Business award sponsored by Superdrug.

The Croydon-based beauty and health retailer is sponsoring the new category as part of its initiative to encourage and promote women into senior roles in business. And they’re urging women across the borough to take up this  ‘great opportunity’ to showcase their entrepreneurial talent.

“Superdrug is passionate about trying to make sure that there are equal opportunities for women as well as men in the company,” said Kendra Moffatt, Head of Talent at Superdrug, pictured above.

“So when we heard about the Women in Business category of the Croydon Business Excellence Awards, it just felt really fitting, particularly as we are based in Croydon.

“It’s a really great award and a really great opportunity for women, so I hope as many as possible enter. We are looking forward to meeting whoever makes the shortlist.”

Superdrug’s female staff account for around 80% of its retail workforce, over half of its store management team and almost half of its operational executive, which is just below board level. The firm’s new network for women employees – and men if they wish – runs workshops and seminars to offer advice from successful female role models, both from within the company and outside of it.

The Croydon Business Excellence Awards recognises and rewards the successes and achievements of the borough’s best companies. The 14 categories cover every aspect of business, are free to enter, and open to every size and type of local business.

The Independent Retailer of the Year category sponsored by Lark Insurance, always attracts a high number of entries. While the new Cultural Impact Award, sponsored by Rise Gallery, is expected to appeal to the borough’s most creative businesses.

The closing date for entries is Friday, June 23. The winners will be announced, along with the overall Business of the Year, at a glittering black-tie Gala Dinner and Charity Ball in the ultra-luxurious Grand Sapphire on Thursday, October 5. To find out more visit. www.croydonawards.co.uk
